Graduate Diploma in Remote Health Practice

The Graduate Diploma in Remote Health Practice aims to extend, remote health practitioners’ current knowledge across three major content areas that underpin practice within the discipline of Remote Health.  Content areas include the remote context, public health and application to practice.

This Award is offered by Flinders University and consists of 8 topics (36 units), usually undertaken over 4 Semesters part time (2 years) on an external basis. Some topics have an Intensive Workshop component held in Alice Springs.

Further study and Nurse Practitioner Pathway
This course articulates, allowing you to progress to the Master of Remote and Indigenous Health upon successful completion.  The Graduate Diploma is also the first step in the pathway to becoming a Nurse Practitioner with a remote scope of practice.

Study Program
You will study 5 core topics:

  • Context of Remote and Indigenous Health (4.5 units)
  • Remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care (4.5 units)
  • Public Health Principles for Remote and Indigenous Practice (4.5 units)
  • Research and Evidence Based Decision Making (4.5 units)
  • Ethics, Power and Practice (4.5 units)


You must also select 3 elective topics available from various specialty streams which include the following:

  • Ageing and Disability
  • Allied Health
  • Management
  • Medical (not offered in 2018)
  • Nursing
  • Remote Child Protection (not offered in 2018)
