Intensive Workshop - Remote Pharmacy in Practice Print E-mail

When: 16th – 17th of August

Topic Description: This topic provides the foundation for pharmacy practice in the unique environmental and cultural context that characterizes the inseparable work and living situation of Remote Health professionals worldwide. The topic examines the processes of developing clinical reasoning skills, using principles of evidence based medicine and identifying one's own learning needs. The unit also focuses on clinical pharmacy skills that are required for advanced practice in remote Aboriginal health organisations. Topics to be covered include the drug management of diseases and conditions that are commonly or uniquely found in the remote and indigenous health context. These cover both chronic disease management such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and renal disease as well as acute drug management of tropical infectious diseases, rheumatic heart disease and skin conditions.

The Centre of Research Excellence launch Print E-mail
On Tuesday 20th September in Parliament House Canberra, the Acting Minister for Health, Mark Butler, officially launched the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE). The Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute has invested in the CRE as part of its primary health care research program, intending to make health services more efficient to ensure best health outcomes for all Australians. The Centre for Remote Health is part of this recently established CRE, together with the Monash University School of Rural Health, the Monash University Gippsland Medical School and the University of Sydney Department of Rural Health, Broken Hill.

The Centre for Remote Health is part of the recently established Centre of Research Excellence, together with the Monash University School of Rural Health, Monash University Gippsland Medical School and University of Sydney, Department of Rural Health, Broken Hill.

  $2.5m has been awarded "for research in accessible and equitable primary health service provision in rural and remote Australia".
