Community Based Rehabilitation |

In response the needs identified by remote allied health practitioners and services, the Centre for Remote Health developed a topic in Community Based Rehabilitation: Primary Health Care for people with disabilities for the past three years. We are pleased to now offer it with in a Graduate Certificate in Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR).
CBR is an internationally developed strategy, to provide services to people with disabilities (of any age). It has as its foundations the principles of primary health care and the disability rights movement. It involves working in partnership with communities and their members to enhance the quality of life for people with disability living in those communities.
The course is designed for people working with people with disabilities in remote and rural Australia. This may be with children or adults with physical disabilities, people with mental health problems or older people. You might be working as a disability worker, allied health professional, educator, Indigenous health workers, remote medical practitioner or nurse or just have an interest in developing skills in this area.
Students will learn the value of working with the CBR approach, gain knowledge about how to apply CBR principles in the Australian rural and remote context and develop skills to assist you to work within CBR framework. Students will also obtain further knowledge of the Australian remote health context and an understanding of the historical, social and professional developments for people with disability.
The course consists of 4 topics which you can complete over 1 year part time. Like other Graduate Certificate courses it consists of 18 credit points and includes the following topics:
- Contexts of Remote Health
- Remote Primary Health Care
- Community Based Rehabilitation: Primary Health Care for people with disabilities
- Community Based Rehabilitation Practicum
