Allied Health Print E-mail
Allied Health Practice within the Remote Health Practice program is supported by two specific Allied Health topics and electives that include Recognising & Responding to Demetia in Indegenous Communities. These have been developed by outstanding remote allied health academics, who are contemporary practicing AHPs Heather Jensen, Robyn Glynn and Ruth Barker, and in consultation with remote allied health practitioners and in collaboration with the Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH). In addition to the Context of Remote Health and Primary Health Care, The AHP stream constitutes Fundamentals of Remote Allied Health Practice and Remote Allied Health in Practice. These topics explore the nature of allied health practice in remote and rural areas and propose a framework for practice. It focuses on the role of the Allied Health Professional as a visitor, a generalist/specialist and as a resource to remote and rural communities. Remote Allied Health in Practice then extends the understandings developed through a two week clinical placement. It also covers further development of clinical reasoning, reflective practice and use of the literature as well as self care and getting the support you need. Many allied health practitioners undertaking this course are living and working in isolated areas and contact between students around remote Australia is facilitated by web based discussions, to explore the material more fully as well as the provision of assistance with assignments.
