Brief Biography
Philip Entwistle is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher at the Centre for Remote Health, Katherine Campus. Phil holds a PhD from LaTrobe University, and a Master of Tropical Health from the University of Queensland. His doctoral research was undertaken in Cambodia and examined the social and cultural determinants affecting HIV/AIDS interventions, Phil also worked on health service development in Cambodia, supporting services at district level. In a consultancy role he has worked with Indigenous communities in North West Queensland on housing issues and with Alcohol and other Drug Services to instigate safe drinking strategies in the community. Phil spent two years at the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health as Research Manager and Coordinator for the Primary Health Care Research Evaluation and Development Program (PHCRED) before moving to CRH Katherine, where he was principle evaluator for the Katherine East Coordinated Care Trial and Retailers Responsible Sale of Solvents Project. While at CRH Alice Springs he was part of a team conducting policy related research funded by APHCRI. This included research on exemplary models of primary health care , and workforce retention issues in rural and remote Australia. Prior to his twelve years experience in the health sector he had sixteen years experience in international mining with a strong focus on project management and design.
